Lawyer

Lawyers or attorneys basically do two things regarding the law; they work as advocates, representing people, institutions, and the government, and presenting their case with evidence in the fairest way possible; lawyers also work as counsels, advising people, institutions, and the government on how to do conduct business and life in a legal way.

Since laws vary significantly from country to country and even within a country, the role of attorneys or lawyers varies. For example, while in the United States, most trials are argued orally, in some other countries, most everything is handled on paper, and very seldom go to oral arguments.

Besides being advocates and counsels, the work by lawyers constantly challenges the law.  They keep bringing new cases to which the law has to be interpreted and applied.  In many cases, the work of lawyers is so new that it generates the necessity to amend or change the law.
